The Driving Test
Daisy sits in the little room waiting for her driving test. The driving test teacher comes in and sits next to her. He tells her what is going to happen in her driving test. Daisy is not really listening. She just wants to start her driving test and make no mistakes. When she is having her driving lessons with her own driving teacher she is OK because she knows if she makes a mistake he can stop the car. But if that happens today she will fail her test. Daisy must pass her test because she needs to be the driver in the family. Her mother is too old and has bad eyes. Her father is dead and her younger brother is still in elementary school.
Daisy hears someone calling her name. Now it is her turn to take the test. Daisy tries to relax. As she gets into the car she starts thinking about her life in Australia. She thinks about being a small child in Vietnam sitting on her grandmother's knee. She remembers arriving in Australia and her Melbourne school. It is because of her good scores at school and university that she now has her good job.
Daisy hears a voice saying, "Well done young lady, you have passed your driving test". When she hears these words, Daisy feels very excited. Now she thinks everything is going to be fantastic because she can look after all her family. Daisy gets her mobile phone out of her bag and rings to tell her mother the good news. They are so happy they cry.
