Rite of Passage

When she was a little girl Tamarin lived in a small village. It was high up in the mountains of northern Thailand next to the beautiful Mae Ping river. Though still a child, Tamarin's uncle had made her a small flute from bamboo. He then spent many years teaching Tamarin how to play the lovely folk music of the mountains.

That was a was a long time ago. Now Tamarin is a student studying music and living in London. The postman has just delivered a box. Carefully she opens the box and takes out the flute. She thinks it is very beautiful, silver and shining like the sun! Then, like her uncle taught her, she lifts the flute up and touches her forehead with it. At this moment a picture of her uncle comes to her like a dream. Smiling, he tells Tamarin how happy he is with her now.
